This is the unbelievable moment a made-in-China mobile phone begins shooting fire after its faulty battery leaked while being replaced.

CCTV footage from a smartphone repair shop somewhere in China shows the technician thankfully managing to jump out the way as the device suddenly turns into a flamethrower.

It is still unclear what model phone was on the desk of the repairman’s workstation, but the owner can be seen hovering over the staff member, watching from the other side of the counter.

Reports said the smartphone had been sent in for a battery replacements - likely because the device would quickly run out of juice despite being freshly charged.

The repairman can be seen having already taken apart the phone’s casing, suggesting that the model’s battery is built in, and he is fiddling with the power source when the accident happens.

Without warning, the lithium-ion polymer battery bursts into flames and shoots out a column of fire in the direction of the terrified technician, who leaps out the way.

One of his tools is believed to have poked a hole in the battery and caused a leak which led to the fire.

The flames continue for several seconds before dying down and engulfing the entire mobile phone, but thankfully nobody was injured during the scare.
