An earthquake measuring magnitude 7.9 was reported in the Gulf of Alaska on Tuesday, January 23, by the US Geological Survey. The National Weather Service issued a tsunami warning following the quake. Kodiak Police issued an evacuation notice on their Facebook page, instructing citizens to take to high ground at Pillar Mount and the local high school. Harbor officers reported water receding from the town’s harbor, which can be a precursor to a tsunami. Credit: Facebook/Ted Panamarioff via Storyful
