The streets of Lesmagow in South Lanarkshire were already covered by several inches of snow on January 19 when forecasts predicted worsening weather. Amid reports of the police urging people in Falkirk, a bit farther north, to “get home as soon as possible”, Carrie Wotherspoon tweeted: “lesmahagow just now”. She told Storyful that her two children were home safe after their schools closed early. She said: “Our school shut early before any signs, it was well dealt with in my opinion.” The Met Office upgraded its weather warning for parts of central and southern Scotland from yellow to amber.
