Storm clouds rolled into Sydney as a thunderstorm hit much of New South Wales on January 9, leaving thousands of homes without power. Commuters were affected as the storm struck when many were stranded on train platforms due to train cancellations and delays, ABC reported. Tuesday’s storm marked the latest update in a week of dramatic weather for Sydney with over 5,000 lightning strikes recorded during Monday’s thunderstorm and temperatures reached 47.3 Celsius (117.14 degrees Fahrenheit) in the west Sydney suburb of Penrith on Sunday.
