Forest officials have arrested a man for tormenting an elephant after it raided a brickkiln looking for Palmyra palm trunks.

Many wild elephants in Western Ghats, India, are addicted to the Palmyra trunks, which they find intoxicating. They often come out of the forest looking for the trunks, which are used as fuel in brick kilns.

An incredible video shows the arrested man repeatedly teasing and daring the elephant to attack him inside a brick kiln.

The elephant charges at him, but is thwarted by the roof and the stone pillars, which further emboldens the man to challenge it again.

A voice of a friend eggs him on and the officials are looking for the instigator as well.

Forest officials raided over 100 brickkilns on the outskirts of Coimbatore to find the suspects on Tuesday after Dr K Vijayaraj of Chinna Thagadam village filed a complaint with Conservator of Forests S Ramasubramanian with a copy of the video.

Forest range officer S Suresh said, "The suspects face up to seven years rigorous imprisonment under the wildlife protection act.“

Officials said the elephant returned to the forest on its own after spending some time at the brickkiln and failing to find the Palmyra trunks.
