This is the heartwarming story of a baby elephant taking a ride in a helicopter after being rescued by conservation workers. The reason for this venture was the fact that the little elephant was born premature and was unable to reach his mother’s teats in order to nurse.

Good Samaritans from the Maasai Mara National Reserve in Kenya rescued this tot together with the help of the Mara Elephant Project, Friends of the Mara, Kenya Wildlife Service and the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. They all joined forces to nurse this baby back to health!

For that matter, the elephant needed to be transferred to the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust orphanage in Nairobi, and the quickest way to get there was by helicopter. This lucky tot was up for a bumpy ride.

Footage shows the moment this adorable baby elephant is loaded in a carrier helicopter and transferred to the orphanage to receive intravenous therapy. Watch as this cutie pie enjoys the ride in the skies above!

Intervening with abandoned baby elephants is something people with the Mara Elephant Project do on a regular basis, therefore they know how to stay calm and collected. Moreover, this project protects elephants in order to conserve the greater Mara ecosystem, but this was the first time they had a pachyderm passenger in their helicopter because these animals are too big and bulky for such a trip.

This lovely baby elephant was named Panya and is now being cared for at the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust orphanage. Judging by this video, she is having a great time in her new home!

Will this baby be reunited with its mother soon? I'm glad the baby is receiving care, but the mother must be frantic. Elephants are family oriented and love deeply, so she is probably in mourning. All she knows is her baby was taken from her. I pray they're reunited, and soon!!
