The IDF says that for the first time since Israel launched its ground offensive in Gaza, the Artillery Corps is operating inside the Strip.

Since the war began on October 7, the Artillery Corps has fired more than 10,000 shells at targets in the Gaza Strip, from the border. The IDF says the artillery fire has been used to aid the ground forces maneuvering in Gaza.

In recent days, the 282nd Artillery Regiment’s 411th Battalion crossed the border with its self-propelled M-109 howitzers, to aid the 188th Armored Brigade’s offensive on Gaza City’s Shejaiya neighborhood.

The IDF says the troops shelled more than 20 buildings in Shejaiya, including weapons depots, booby-trapped homes, and other Hamas infrastructure, as well as deployed flares and smoke shells to assist the ground forces.
