Gender reveals are now trending and we have already seen many creative ways in which the expecting parents announce to the world about their incoming joy. Well, this couple came up with an extraordinary idea and their gender reveal is quite literally out of this world!

Pleased to announce the arrival of their baby to the planet, Lance Patrick and Ashley Blankenship from West Virginia, launched a balloon into space. High school space group helped the couple float a weather balloon 20 miles above Earth’s atmosphere.

Watch as tension rises together with the balloon, with a camera recording every move. It is neat to see a stuffed toy dressed as an astronomer bearing the logo of NASA go to space with a single mission to announce the gender of the baby! When the balloon finally burst, the parachute carrying the cameras and a toy monkey landed safely down to earth, revealing the surprising news that the couple is having a boy.

Lance, 40, a comedian and marketing company director, informed that they launched the weather balloon exactly 20 years to the day his father Curtis passed, so it added an extra special meaning. They wanted to celebrate the arrival of the new little life and at the same time honouring his dad’s life as well.

Lance grew up in Florida and saw a lot of space shuttle launches go up when he was a kid and has been a huge NASA and space nerd ever since. He always wanted to send something up to the edge of space so this idea came natural when they found out they were expecting. After settling on the idea of a weather balloon, Lance decided he wanted a toy to go into space to be a memento for his new born.

Ashley and Lance announced that baby’s name, Tesla Curtis, comes from the Russian inventor Nikola Tesla and Lance’s dad Curtis.
