Macedonia dates back to the dawn of time and has been settled by one civilization or another in many different eras. It was once an independent Greek kingdom, it was part of the Byzantine Empire for centuries before coming under Ottoman rule. In the modern age it became part of Yugoslavia and is now once again an independent kingdom.
