The holiday season can be a very stressful time for many people, so when a big day like Thanksgiving comes along, the last thing anyone would need is to pay for a traffic ticket.

But for 25 civilians in Laredo, Texas, that was exactly what they were headed for. However, on Friday, November 17, when they committed their traffic violations, the Laredo Police Department gave them something that was way bigger than a traffic ticket.

While the drivers were going back and forth whether they should receive a citation or not, the officers handed them a written warning and then they happily presented them with their very own Thanksgiving turkey.

The turkeys were donated by a local business, who has been kept anonymous, and the officers devised the plan as part of Operation Peacemaker. “The officers came up with the idea and that commitment to the betterment and service to our community is what makes me proudest to be the head of such a dedicated and compassionate group of officers," Chief Claudio Treviño stated on Facebook.

The civilians were obviously surprised by the surprise gift, and a video posted to YouTube shows a mix of shock, gratitude, and happy tears. “The season is right for giving thanks for all of our blessings," LPD wrote on Facebook.
