Rumble Syrian Democratic Forces took control of the Al-Naim Roundabout in Raqqa, Syria on October 17, doing donuts in an BMP armored personnel carrier. The stunt was a echo of the Islamic State’s own celebrations in Raqqa three years before. On June 29, 2014, the Islamic State declared a new caliphate under Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. A day later on June 30, 2014, Islamic State forces held a parade in Al-Naim Roundabout in Raqqa, where a vehicle flying an Islamic State flag drove donuts. A BMP personnel carrier flying SDF flags repeated the scene on October 17 as the US-backed coalition said Islamic State fighters had been cleared from the city. Islamic State fighters first captured Raqqa in 2014. The US-backed campaign in Raqqa against them has been ongoing for four-months. It has caused extensive damage as can be seen in these videos marking the approximate end and beginning of the Islamic State occupation of the city.
