US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces celebrated victory on October 17 over the Islamic State at sites of some of their last battles with the militant group’s forces. In this video, Kurdish forces carrying YPG flags walked into the city stadium northwest of the center where fighting was ongoing as recently as October 16, media outlets said. In a second video, SDF troops celebrate atop a BMP personnel carrier driving donuts in the Naim Roundabout, where many Islamic State executions were carried out. Modified Humvees can also be seen. In a third video, the Kurdish news outlet said SDF forces fought for control of the National Hospital, one of the last IS strongholds. The US-backed campaign against Islamic State in Raqqa has been ongoing for four-months, causing extensive damage to the city. The militants first captured Raqqa in 2014.
