This video demonstrates a Tesla Autopilot safety feature. If a driver should suffer a medical emergency or fall asleep whilst at the wheel, ordinarily the car would run off the road potentially killing the driver and their passengers.

With an Autopilot equipped car, if the driver does not respond to repeated requests to hold the steering wheel, rather than running off the road, Autopilot will continue to steer the car along the road gradually slowing the car, switching on the hazard lights and then stopping on the road with the hazard lights on.
Autopilot does not pull off the road as other drivers may think the driver is pulling over and everything is okay. By stopping in the lane it will cause other drivers to investigate and summon emergency assistance as may be required.

This driver films his Tesla Autopilot experience on July 19, 2017 in South Gundagai, New South Wales, in Australia by documenting Tesla’s driving-assist feature.

Tesla Autopilot is a driver assist feature that the company plans to develop to fully autonomous driving in the future, acknowledging that legal, regulatory and technical hurdles must be overcome in order to achieve this goal. It is amazing to see how technology progresses and who knows what the future will bring!
