A mother received the perfect gift for her 53rd birthday when she finally got to meet the son she gave up for adoption 18 years ago.

Floridian Tammy Oswalt was on the brink of homelessness when she gave birth to her third child. Already having two daughters and being a single mother, Tammy decided to give the boy, who she named Dylan, up for adoption. She said her son’s father had battled addiction and they broke up before she found out she was pregnant.

She said she wanted Dylan to have the life she knew she couldn’t provide for him, but when she gave the boy to his adoptive parents, she thought it is the last time she is seeing that face.

Even though she was receiving updates on Dylan for a while, the weight of her decision pushed her into depression, making her want to commit suicide due to overwhelming emotional guilt. Eventually Tammy pulled herself together, but the void remained.

So when Tammy’s birthday rolled in September, her daughter, Sammy Hewett, gave her a gift that no money could buy: her son. Sammy had been in touch with Dylan for some time, even since he found his biological sister’s phone number, but he wasn’t ready to be reunited with his mom just yet. But four days after Tammy’s birthday, her daughter took her out for dinner and gave her the news.

The best about this reunion is that Dylan and his biological mom actually live just 90 minutes away from each other and they plan on visiting each other and start to build the relationship they were robbed of all those years ago.
