Hong Kong fans booed the Chinese national anthem at a football match on Tuesday, October 10. The local team was playing against Malaysia in an Asian Cup 2019 qualifier match. According to the Hong Kong Free Press, some were also seen turning their backs when the anthem began and holding up large banners calling for Hong Kong independence. The local team beat Malaysia 2-0. This comes less than a week after fans booed the anthem, with some reportedly pointing their middle finger, during a friendly football match between Hong Kong and Laos the previous Thursday. The same happened during a World Cup qualifier match against China in 2015. The Hong Kong Football Association has said that the national team may face a loss of points if fans continue to boo the national anthem. Credit: Instagram/Ken Lai Sze Kui via Storyful
