Lt Gen Paul E Funk II, who took over command of the US-led coalition against Islamic State in Iraq and Syria in September, has paid a visit to Mosul, where he greeted his Iraqi counterparts with the phrase, “You’ve done it.” Video by a local news outlet shows Funk joining his Iraqi counterparts on a walk through the city, where he greets locals and enjoys a cup of tea. Funk congratulated the people of Mosul on their liberation and said the United States would be there to “support the efforts to secure the rest of Iraq.” Gen Najem al-Juburi, the commanding officer of Iraq’s anti-IS forces in the Mosul area, said he was pleased that Funk was able to visit and assess the security situation. He also thanked the US-backed coalition for supporting Iraqi forces in fighting against Islamic state. Credit: YouTube/Al-Mawsleya via Storyful
