Thousands of people took to the streets of Barcelona on October 3, congregating in the city’s Placa de la Universitat to show support for the Catalonia referendum and to protest police violence. This footage shows the rally participants marching past the city’s Placa de Catalunya square, chanting slogans and bearing a banner which reads “contra la repressio en defensa de les llibertats” (against repression in defense of freedom). According to reports from El Confidencial and Aldia.cat, protesters spoke out against police clashes that had occurred during the referendum vote on October 1, when over 800 people were injured in confrontations with police in riot gear. Spain’s King Felipe VI spoke out against the Catalonian referendum on October 3, arguing that its supporters have violated the country’s constitution and been “disloyal.” Credit: Instagram/maggiefolcia via Storyful
