A DPS pursuit came to a dramatic halt after a car with nine migrants inside flipped over three times during a crash near the Mexico border. The Department of Public Safety pursued a white SUV in the Santa Teresa area of El Paso, near the Mexican border. Troopers flying overhead spotted a White 2006 White Hyundai Tucson loading up a group of migrants in a desert area and alerted the ground troopers before the vehicle managed to cross through the checkpoint. DPS drivers tried to pull the car over but the SUV sped away and the pursuit turned into a full-fledged car-chase.

The car-chase ended in a startling crash that left the SUV, full of migrants, flipping over three times before it halted suddenly on the side of the highway engulfed in smoke. The driver was Angel Omar Arciniega Luna, 35, from Durango, Mexico. He was booked on a human smuggling charge for attempting to transport the group of nine migrants into his SUV, according to ABC-7. DPS agents along with local authorities and border control have been monitoring smugglers from the moment they collect their human cargo until the pursuit ends and have been using overhead tracking methods involving helicopters as well as ground control.
