A group of 120 high school students in Commerce City, Colorado, were sent home after they staged a protest during a recital of the school’s pledge on September 27. Students at the Victory Preparatory Academy said that they were brought to the school’s auditorium and sent home after they sat through the daily pledge to protest what they call the “lack of school spirit”. A Facebook Live video broadcast from the school’s grounds on September 28 shows a number of police cruisers at the school. Local media report that students claim the cruisers were called to the school “for good measure.” A statement released by the Charter School Institute of Colorado said that they are investigating the incident and are working “collaboratively” to reach a resolution with both the school and families.
