Governor Spencer Cox, State of Utah Sues TikTok: The Dark Truths of Digital ID, Censorship, Privacy

Join me as I review and breakdown the latest press conference from Utah's governor, Spencer Cox, who is spearheading a court case aimed at the video tech giant, TikTok. The state of Utah alleges that damage to the children of Utah happened as a result of preditory business practices aimed at children. This has resulted in the signing of Utah's Social Media Regulation Act (USMRA), which was signed into law by Governor Cox and will take effect in spring 2024.

This controversial, first-of-its-kind legal action has raised legitimate concerns about the potential for government overreach resulting in direct attacks on First Amendment protections, including free speech and freedom of the press. Concerns over the loss of privacy seem to be a big concern among Utah residents. These concerns and questions being raised are being dismissed, belittled, and even demonized, as somehow anyone with these concerns is automatically in support of preditory social media practices. Although it keeps being stated that this isn't a "big deal" and that somehow a majority of Utah residents are in favor of the actions being taken by the state,

As a resident of Utah, I can say that I am among those with concerns about overreaching government and the installation of a tyrannical technocratic state that happens to be branded with a smiley face. Because nothing nefarious is happening. No one is attacking our rights, and we apparently need to accept that. Or else.

Join me as I lay out the situation and explain why I am convinced the protection of children is an emotional propaganda tactic being used against the public with the hope that by having such strong emotion tied to it, it can be rushed through faster than if it were not a sensationalized piece of tabloid journalism.
