This visually stunning and musically enhanced footage of three tiger sharks cruising the ocean was filmed off the east coast of South Africa in August. Tiger sharks are considered a near-threatened species due to excessive finning and fishing by humans, according to International Union for Conservation of Nature.

Some ninety-eight species of sharks may be found in South Africa. They have been around for over 400 million years and have remained virtually unchanged in their current forms for some 70 million years. Their success is in part due to their ability to adapt to different ecological niches as top predators.

Their role in our oceans is complex and diverse, we should therefore try to move away from just seeing them as “sharks", to seeing each different species in it’s own right, fulfilling a unique ecological function.

Tiger sharks aren’t very friendly towards outsiders, as this footage of an individual attacking a diver can attest. While on a breath hold spearfishing adventure to the Coral Sea in Australia, a young Spearo encountered a near critical and very exciting experience. A Tiger Shark rushes him and his dive buddy several times before they manage to hurl themselves into the boat. Many screams follow due to huge amounts of adrenalin, joy and excitement as Spearo's love this kind of experience and action!
