British holidaymakers have been left stranded in Cuba following the destruction raged upon the country by Hurricane Irma. Thomas Cook issued a statement on September 10 about the status of their customers on the island, saying“we are working on an evacuation plan for our 2,350 customers in Varadero, to bring all of them home in the coming days”. They added that a special assistance team is present on the ground in Cuba, and another 40 members are flying to Cuba over the next 24 hours to provide further support. Video from holidaymaker Lisa Bryan shows the damage done to Hotel Brisas Guardalavaca in Cuba. On a post to Thomas Cook’s Facebook page, Bryan disputed the travel agency’s assertion that the hotel had not been affected by the hurricane. Credit: Facebook/Lisa Bryan via Storyful
