Houston locals have banded together to service their local communities in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, volunteering to rebuild homes and offer support in public venues such as churches. This footage, posted on September 3 and 4, shows volunteers of Houston’s Lakewood Church helping with the rebuilding effort and navigating through the region’s still-flooded streets. The third video embedded here shows part of an encouraging sermon from John Gray, an Associate Pastor at Lakewood Church and a community leader. The Lakewood Church’s leader Joel Osteen faced intense scrutiny on social media and from the media for his decision not to open the doors of the megachurch to Harvey evacuees until August 29.
