Arkema chemical plant officials ignited remaining combustible containers on Sunday, September 3. According to ABC 13, Arkema, based out of Crosby, Texas, ignited the six remaining containers rather than wait for them to explode on their own. Explosions were first reported at the plant on September 1, due to flooding caused by Tropical Storm Harvey. Officials had warned of fires and explosions at the ammonia plant after flooding knocked out power to coolant systems used to refrigerate volatile chemicals.
