Rumble At least two people died, according to reports, after New Delhi’s Ghazipur landfill site caved in and collapsed onto a roadway on September 1. Five others have been rescued from the nearby canal after the garbage forced cars into the water. The Ghazipur site, one of New Delhi’s main hubs for garbage, receives approximately one quarter of the city’s daily trash intake and features a tower of garbage piled over 100 feet high. Opposition political party officials – such as Ajay Maken – have consistently warned about the public safety dangers of the Ghazipur site for months prior to the accident.
