WEX Wakeup: New York ordered to pay $447,000 to NRA; Ramaswamy's plan to tackle rising crime

The White House repeatedly declined on Monday to clarify comments President Joe Biden made regarding a new deal on Ukraine aid with House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA). Biden delivered remarks from the White House on Sunday following the passage of a continuing resolution keeping the government open for 45 days. That legislation included new funding to refill the Federal Emergency Management Agency's disaster relief fund but no additional aid for Ukraine, as requested by the president.

The state of New York has been ordered to pay almost half a million dollars to the National Rifle Association over a case that the Supreme Court ruled on last year. The case, New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen, was decided on by the Supreme Court in June 2022, with the 6-3 decision stating that New York's long-standing concealed carry law violated the Second Amendment of the Constitution. A New York judge has since ordered the state to pay the NRA $447,700.82 in legal fees, as the NRA was a party in the Supreme Court's case.

Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy said the “crime epidemic” in the United States can be fought by bringing back insane asylums. “It’s a taboo subject, but we have to talk about the hard truth,” Ramaswamy told Jesse Watters Primetime. “Violent crime has risen over precisely the period that we have shuttered these psychiatric institutions.”
