Winds whipped the southern shore of Hong Kong at Shek O on the morning of Wednesday, August 23, as Typhoon Hato neared the city. The Hong Kong Stock Exchange, offices and schools were closed in face of the storm. The Hong Kong Observatory warned that winds of up to 70mph were recorded as the typhoon passed offshore weather stations around 60 miles south of Hong Kong early on Wednesday. Typhoon Hato was expected to make landfall in the city later in the day before tracking northwest through China’s Guangdong province. Credit: Twitter/mariannefbray via Storyful
