Women are taking on the male-dominated sport of competitive lumberjacking, and 34-year-old lumberjill Erin Lavoie, a veteran of the Lumberjack World Championships, leads the pack. Taking care not to miss while wood chopping -- and risk hacking off a toe -- takes not just bravery but also finesse, and CrossFit athlete/Iron Jill World Champion Lavoie has both. The three-year reigning champion in the underhand chop -- who also holds the 2010 Guinness Book World Record for chopping 27 Christmas trees in 2 minutes -- recently upped her training, which also includes axe throwing, to compete in the Stihl Timbersports Series, a historically all-male competition that just began admitting female competitors in 2017.
