We tend to keep a lot of old things with us. It might be the first clothes we ever wore as a child, or maybe it’s something that belonged to our parents or even our great grandparents. Either way, it accumulates over time and we are left with a room full of paraphernalia that we don’t need.

But this isn’t always a bad thing. The reason why we even kept these things in the first place is because we have a certain emotional attachment with them. They might remind us of better times or even better people. They don’t have a price and they can never be replaced.

James Simpson found a gem in this pile of memories. He stumbled upon his great grandfather’s wedding ring, a golden band with the date engraved on the inside. He has never met the man, seen as he was over a hundred years older than him, but James wanted to honor his memory by using this ring on his wedding day. James went even further by choosing to have his wedding on the same date his grandfather did, only a hundred years later. His fiancee Kendra Spriggs was all up for the idea, and on October 18, 2015 she put the 100-year-old ring on his finger. James says that at first he thought that the ring was rough and dirty-looking, but now it bonds him with the great grandfather he never knew and he is glad that they now share a bond.
