Woman Finds Out She's Pregnant, Gives Birth Three Days Later
Imani Guillory-Fruge, daughter of former senator of Louisiana Elbert Lee Guillory, had the surprise of her life after a specialist check-up for a gallbladder issue. Imani had just gotten engaged to Jason Fruge, whom she met through a mutual friend. But less than a month later, Imani was due for an X-Ray for her gallbladder after a routine ultrasound.
“The nurse was giving me an ultrasound, and all of a sudden, she started looking at my paperwork," Imani says. “ ‘You’re getting an x-ray? You can’t,’ she said. She looked at me so puzzled like I was nuts. And then, she looked at me, touched me so gently on my arm, and said, ‘Sweetheart … do you know that you’re with child?’"
The baby was due on Jan. 21, a few weeks from the day Imani found out she was expecting. But Mother Nature had different plans. “Two days later, I was in excruciating pain," Imani recalls. “I was at my mom’s, and I woke her up at 4 a.m., went into the bathtub thinking a warm bath would help. But I got out of the tub, and I was bleeding."
The next thing she knew, the young mom welcomed her baby son Jason Paul, weighing more than 6.5 pounds and was 19 inches long. The new mom had no idea how to change a diaper on her baby, who was born with a white complexion like his dad, even though his mom is African American.
“Everything happens for a reason," she says. “God puts things in your life, and you could go through the greatest struggle, but it’s all worth it."
In case you're from the Louisiana zone, the name Elbert Lee Guillory may ring a bell. The former Louisiana congressperson hails from Opelousas, where he right now specializes in legal matters and is the pleased dad of youngsters Elbert Guillory II, 43, and Imani Guillory-Fruge, 27.
For the children, experiencing childhood in the public eye had its highs and lows – however, Imani glances back at the beautiful spots with affection. Even though her dad was always in the spotlight, this was the also the put her on the spotlight.
Imani and her husband were so shocked when they found out that they are going to have a baby! “I was silent,” she says. “I couldn’t talk. My mom had to call everyone. I eventually talked to Jason and said, ‘I’m pregnant, we’re going to have a baby.’ ” Wow, that must have been shocking but good news for the whole family!
But, you are all probably asking the same question. How did Imani not know that she was pregnant for whole eight months? How did Imani not realize she was pregnant, for almost nine months?
“Every symptom that could have been a red flag, I was able to explain away,” she says. “I felt some movement, but it felt like water sloshing around, so I took gas medicine. Around December, my pedicurist asked if I was pregnant because she said my feet were swollen – but I said maybe it was because I had been doing a lot of walking in New Orleans.” What an incredible story.
