Meet Roxy Getter, age 8, who was born with a hole in her heart and had an open heart surgery at the age of one. However, her condition didn’t stop the brave girl to join her family on a recent adventure, climbing Mountain Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.

This eight-year-old girl is the youngest female to climb Tanzania’s Mount Kilimanjaro. Roxy and her family hiked the 19,341 feet mountain together. She has been active ever since she had the surgery, which is remarkable for a little girl born with that condition.

Having consulted with the doctor and after receiving a medial approval, Roxy went on this adventure, and when she reached the summit, Roxy became a record-setter! Honestly, she didn’t think she would make it up to the top, but she did and was so proud of herself for making the history books!

Roxy, together with her mom Sarah, dad Bobby and 10-year-old brother Ben, chronicled their trip up the mountain over six days in video diaries. They said they ran up and down stairs, biked and took a lot of walks to train for the summit. This was the family's first camping trip. In July, the 8-year-old from Punta Gorda, Florida, reached the top of Mount Kilimanjaro after climbing all 19,341 feet during a family trip to Africa.

Roxy is just a year older than the record-holder for the youngest Mount Kilimanjaro climber ever, Keats Boyd, who ascended the mountain at age seven in 2008. According to the site Climb Mount Kilimanjaro, neither of them was technically allowed to summit the mountain because the minimum age is 10. The youngest person to get up there without breaking the rules was 10-year-old Jordan Romero.
