Dozens of military tanks and troops moved towards Tal Afar city on August 16 to participate in a major offensive against the Islamic State’s last haven in Nineveh province, according to a local fighting group. The major offensive against ISIS has not yet begun, as Iraqi troops were still waiting for orders from the Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Abadi, Al Sumaria said, citing officials. Civilians already started to flee the towns around Tal Afar city as high violence was expected, Al Sumaria said, citing officials. Tal Afar was captured by ISIS in 2014 when militias declared an Islamic Caliphate in Syria and Iraq.
