Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is signalling a major plan which he is quietly carrying out in full view of the world media. At a meeting in Washington, he announced that the Ukrainian Defence Forces are preparing to make a new move to retake Russian-occupied territory.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced at a meeting with American editors in Washington that the Ukrainian Defence Forces are determined to liberate the city of Bakhmut in Donetsk Oblast and two more towns under Russian occupation.
Zelenskyy said, "We will liberate Bakhmut from occupation. I think we will liberate two more cities from occupation." However, he refrained from naming these cities and only said, "We have a plan. A very, very comprehensive plan," he said.
UK intelligence reported that Russia still controls a railway line near the recently liberated settlement of Klishchiivka, but that the defences in the town of Bakhmut were probably weakened. Ukrainian Defence Forces approached the road used by the Russians as a supply route from southern Ukraine to Bakhmut, making it difficult for Russian troops to resupply.
Illia Yevlash, Chief of the Press Service of the East Operational Command, stressed that the Ukrainian Defence Forces now control the Bakhmut-Horlivka road under direct fire, making it difficult for Russian troops to resupply.
