Japan’s northern Akita Prefecture was swamped by heavy rains on July 23 and 24, causing the evacuation of around 120,000 people as rivers overflowed and homes were filled with floodwaters. The cities of Daisen, Senboku and Yurihonjo were among the hardest hit, the Japan Times reported. This footage, uploaded on Sunday, July 23, is described as showing a river in Daisen swelling after the heavy rainfall. Elsewhere in the city, rising water levels partially submerged houses and forced people to navigate by boat. Credit: YouTube/ヘイヘイ TV via Storyful
