Washington residents found relief on July 14 after a storm swept through the city breaking a four day heatwave. The Washington Post reported the wet weather followed temperatures of 97 degrees Fahrenheit from the previous day, the hottest on record this year for Washington. On Friday afternoon, the mercury reportedly fell from 94.1 degrees Fahrenheit to 79.6 in the space of 15 minutes. The heavy winds and rain were accompanied by an electrical storm that reportedly toppled trees further away from the centre of Washington. This timelapse shows the storm rolling over Capitol Hill.
