A severe winter storm churned up huge waves in Wellington’s harbour on July 13. Waves of up to 10 m were reported. The author of this video said he had a “semi-submersible train ride” going into Wellington. Sustained winds of 120 kph were reported just offshore in the Cook Strait, NZ’s NIWA Weather tweeted, noting that those kind of winds were typical of a Category 3 cyclone. More than 1,300 homes in the New Zealand capital were without power, roads were closed and many flights were cancelled, Stuff.co.nz reported. Credit: Twitter/cogtwitoergosum via Storyful
