The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) said on July 12 that it had been able to use a newly opened land route to deliver more food to displaced people in Raqqa province. WFP said it was the first time in three years it had been able to supply people near Mansoura and other rural areas north of Raqqa city. It said the new access would allow it to “expand its regular food deliveries to Raqqa.” Prior to the re-opening of the road, which links Aleppo to Hasakeh, WFP operated an airlift to deliver food assistance from Damascus airport to Qamishli.
