Thousands of people participated in a “rave” near Hamburg’s port on Wednesday, July 5, to protest against the upcoming G20 summit in the city. A heavy security presence was felt in Hamburg over recent days as protesters set up camps and rallied in the city centre ahead of the meeting by the leaders of the world’s wealthiest nations on July 7 and 8. On Tuesday night, police doused protesters in the St Pauli district with water cannons, while two days earlier activists were embroiled in a tense stand-off with officers at a protest camp in Entenwerder.
