Ruteng is a district that is also the capital of Manggarai Regency, in the province of East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. Ruteng is also known as one of the coldest regions in Indonesia. The city of Ruteng is also known by a nickname, "City of a Thousand Monasteries / City of a Thousand Churches". Here, people still preserve an ancient Manggarai custom called "caci" (whip fighting), and it is also one of the tourist attractions in the region.
