In Japan, sumo wrestling is still a male-only sport, so 33-year-old Natsumi Takagi, originally of Tokyo, took her ambitions to Los Angeles and became the first Japanese woman to compete, and win a silver medal, in the US Sumo Open. Despite her small size -- 5’5” and 120 lbs -- she regularly wrestles men several times larger, and even bested a sumo champion twice her weight. For Takagi, sumo isn’t just a fight. It’s what makes her feel like a bigger person.
