Footage of thousands of bats flying from under the South Congress Avenue Bridge in Austin, TX, USA to feed on insects.

According to the filmer, around 1.5 million of Mexican free-tailed bats gather there every year in the summer.

The city of Austin reveres its bridge bats so much, they even have a statue to celebrate them. But what is now the world’s largest urban bat colony was once on the brink of extinction. People feared the animals so much, that a public health-crisis was declared in 1980. Now not only do these winged animals entertain tourists, they help the city by reducing the need for pesticides.
