Clouds of smoke billowed from the San Bernardino Mountains on Sunday, August 7, two days after a brush fire started near the Silverwood Lake. The Pilot Fire grew to more than 6,000 acres on Monday. About 375 homes were under a mandatory evacuation order in the Summit Valley area and Hesperia, and about 5,000 homes were under a voluntary evacuation advisory in Hesperia and nearby communities, according to the Los Angeles Times.The cause of the fire remains unknown, but the rapid spread was attributed to dry brush and timber.
