It’s hoped the arrival of the first ocean liner to the port of Wollongong on Sunday, October 30, will herald a new era for the region by boosting tourism.

Cruise ship Radiance of the Seas sailed into Port Kembla at about 7am, greeted by a group of humpback whales and thousands of locals who turned out to witness the arrival.

Footage shows passengers aboard the ship waving Australian flags.

Royal Caribbean managing director Adam Armstrong "told’ the Illiawarra Mercury the mega liner’s maiden voyage into Port Kembla as “something for the history books”.
