Commuters were forced to seek alternative means of transport on January 9 after strike action almost brought the London Underground to a standstill.

In video uploaded to YouTube, crowds can be seen flooding out of Waterloo Station in south London.

Members of the <span class="caps">RMT</span> and Transport Salaried Staffs’ Association (<span class="caps">TSSA</span>) unions are striking in protest at plans to close ticket offices on the London Underground.

The 24-hour strike began at 6pm on Sunday and is scheduled to continue until Monday evening.
