Tiny wombat Rosie, who was taken in by Sleepy Burrows sanctuary in Gundaroo in late December, has been enjoying her new home.

A December 26 video shows the orphan lazily clawing at a milk bottle and falling in and out of sleep during feeding time.

“As a wombat pinkie, the most important thing right now is to ensure Rose does not get sick and drinks consistently, while sleeping 24 hours a day, as she would in her mother’s pouch,” carer Donna Stepan said.

“It is a very vulnerable time for wombat pinkies coming into our human world as they can get sick very easily. But managed the right way, there is no reason why Rose should not thrive and be released eventually around 30 kilograms at the sanctuary back into the bush, where she belongs.”
