Man Gets Around Tahiti by Canoe After Severe Flooding

Heavy flooding hit Tahiti, the largest island in French Polynesia, on Sunday, January 22, prompting many residents to evacuate to higher ground. This man, however, was able to get around by canoeing through the flooded streets.

Severe weather conditions were reported in Tahiti and its neighboring island Moorea. At least three people were injured and more than 100 homes were destroyed, <a href="http://uk.reuters.com/article/uk-tahiti-floods-idUKKBN15706Q" target="_blank">Reuters</a> said, citing the French Polynesia High Commission. More than 6,000 households were without power, while Tahiti’s Fa’a’ā International Airport was closed, according to <a href="http://www.tahitinews.co/edt-6000-abonnes-coupes-entre-minuit-et-3-heures-du-matin/" target="_blank">local media</a>.
