Iraqi Forces Storm Last IS-Held Neighborhood in Western Mosul

Severe fighting was reported between Iraqi forces and Islamic State fighters on May 28 as operations resumed near Mosul’s Old City, according to <a href="" target="_blank">Iraqi media reports</a>.

IS reportedly controls only 5 percent of territory in western Mosul since the major offensive started several months ago, <a href="" target="_blank">Iraqi media</a> reported, citing a military source.

The last remaining IS enclave includes the Old City center and three adjacent districts along the western bank of the Tigris river, <a href="" target="_blank">Reuters reported</a>.

Local activists <a href="" target="_blank">said</a> 15 civilians were killed, including women and children, in air strikes in old Mosul.
