An orangutan mother climbed out of her enclosure at Perth Zoo on May 28 in an apparent effort to save her son, who had reportedly fallen from some equipment and into a garden bed. The incident prompted an evacuation to the nocturnal house. The orangutan, Sekara, successfully retrieved her five-year-old son, Sungai, and returned to her exhibit after about 15 minutes, according to the zoo. “Sekara is an excellent mum and a bit of a helicopter parent, and the only way to get to him was to pop on to the visitor board. She retrieved him and returned to the enclosure on her own,” a zoo spokeswoman told WA Today.
