Heavy Police Presence After Officers Shot in Central Paris

At least one police officer was killed and two others seriously injured when a gunman opened fired on the Champs-Élysées Avenue in Paris on April 20, according to the French interior ministry.

An assailant was was shot dead by police, according to an <a href="https://twitter.com/Place_Beauvau/status/855154460028481536" target="_blank">interior ministry spokesman</a>. The area around the Champs-Élysées was closed off following the incident, to allow for security forces to sweep surrounding streets.

The French anti-terrorism prosecutor’s office was investigating the shooting, according to <a href="http://www.leparisien.fr/faits-divers/paris-fusillade-sur-les-champs-elysees-des-policiers-touches-20-04-2017-6871767.php" target="_blank">reports</a>.
