Deadly Mudslides Strike Manizales

At least 16 people were killed on Wednesday, April 19, after heavy rains caused mudslides in Manizales, Colombia, <a href="http://www.semana.com/nacion/articulo/derrumbes-en-manizales-por-lluvias/522437" target="_blank">according to local reports</a>.

Teams from the Colombian armed forces, civil defense, firefighters and Red Cross <a href="https://newswire.storyful.com/storylines/*/stories/164517" target="_blank">searched for survivors</a> and started clean-up efforts on Wednesday and Thursday.

Nine people were still missing on Thursday, according to the country’s disaster management agency, <a href="http://portal.gestiondelriesgo.gov.co/Paginas/Noticias/2017/Tras-24-horas-de-atencion-situacion-en-Manizales-entra-en-fase-de-estabilizacion.aspx" target="_blank"><span class="caps">UNGRD</span></a> said.
